How to Add a Voiceover to Videos on Your iPhone

Have you ever wanted to share a video on your iPhone, but weren’t sure how to add a voiceover?

Today we’ll show you how!

April Video Contest

We challenged you this month to create a short video (or videos) sharing how to do a certain family history task in the FamilySearch Tree app. (Read more about that here.)

We truly believe that the best way to learn is to do and to teach! But maybe you still aren’t sure how to make a video on your phone. Let’s walk through it.

How to Make a Video on Your iPhone

There are a few steps we use to create our tutorial videos.

Screen Recording

Have you ever swiped down the menu on your iPhone that lets you change the screen brightness, turn WiFi and Bluetooth on and off, and find the flashlight and calculator? You may have to swipe down from the top right corner to find it.

In the bottom left corner there is a button with a circle in it. This is the screen record button!

Press it, and you’ll see a countdown. You can swipe up, and once the recording starts there will be a red circle around the phone clock to indicate that it is recording.

It will record a video of what is happening on your screen and any audio that is playing from your phone.

Click that red circle around the clock to open a prompt to stop recording. The video will then be saved to your camera roll!

InShot – a Free Video Editing App

In the App Store you can find a video editing app called InShot. We use the free option and it works great!

This app allows you to splice photos and videos, change the dimension of your video for different social channels, add music, text, stickers, and most importantly, voiceovers!

Watch this video for a look at how it works:

Hopefully this helps you so you can enter into our Video Contest!

The winner of the video contest will be featured on our blog, and will also revive a $25 Amazon gift card!

Before May 4th, 2020, upload your video to Facebook or Instagram and tag us so we can see it! (Click here for full instructions.)

We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
